Kompozytor, aranżer i pianista jazzowy pochodzący z Gdańska. Absolwent Akademii Muzycznej w Gdańsku, specjalności kompozycja jazzowa (w klasie prof. Leszka Kułakowskiego) oraz specjalności fortepian jazzowy (w klasie prof. Włodzimierza Nahornego oraz dr. Sławomira Jaskułke). Wieloletni pedagog tejże uczelni. Michał Ciesielski jest liderem Trójmiejskiego tria Confusion Project, solistą oraz aranżerem i sidemanem licznych projektów. Michał ma na koncie 4 płyty studyjne oraz 2 płyty live z Confusion Project, a także 3 płyty solowe – „Between Black & White”(2013), „Share Location” (2019) oraz „Racing Thoughts”(2023). Premiera „Share Location” miała miejsce jako support przed występem Hiromi w Gdańsku w październiku 2019 roku. Daniel Nosewicz – „The Shining” Ta ostatnia została nagrodzona Fryderykiem w kategorii Jazzowy Debiut Roku. W latach 2018 – 2022 Michał wykładał fortepian jazzowy w Beijing Contemporary Music Academy i intensywnie koncertował głównie w Chinach, w tym w takich miejscach jak: Taihu Jazz Festival, Meeting Jazz Festival, Blue Note Beijing czy Blue Note Shanghai. Wielokrotnie współpracował z fundacją Jazz Po Polsku grając koncerty autorskie oraz promujące polski jazz w Chinach (w tym dwie trasy po Chinach z Confusion Project w 2019 i 2023 roku) . Od 2022 roku jest kierownikiem artystycznym oraz kompozytorem projektu “European Jazz Encounters in China”, organizowanym przez liczne Europejskie instytucje kultury w Chinach, promującym Europejską i Chińską muzykę ludową i jazzową.
Obecnie mieszka w Brukseli i jest czynnym członkiem polskiej i międzynarodowej sceny jazzowej.
Michał Ciesielski is a Polish jazz composer, arranger and pianist, currently based in Brussels, Belgium. He graduated with honours the Academy of Music in Gdańsk, and was for many years a teacher at this university. In 2018-2022 he was living in Beijing, teaching at the Beijing Contemporary Music Academy. Until today he remains an active member of both European and Chinese music scene.
Ciesielski is the leader of a acclaimed Polish trio, Confusion Project, with whom he recorded 7 albums, and toured many countries across Europe and Asia. He also pursues a career as a soloist. He recorded 3 solo albums: „Between Black & White”(2013), „Share Location” (2019) oraz „Racing Thoughts”(2023). The premiere of „Share Location” took place in Gdańsk in October 2019, as a support act for Hiromi Uehara. Apart from his solo and trio music he arranged and co-composed over 10 music albums , and featured as a session musician on several other albums, which adds up to over 20 recorded albums during his artistic career.
As a member of Daniel Nosewicz’s quintet they received the Fryderyk award (Polish equivalent of Grammy) for Daniel’s debut album – „The Shining” He toured in numerous countries: Poland, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Great Britain, Sweden, Lithuania, Russia (before the war), Kazachstan, China, Vietnam, Mongolia. In 2023 he toured through USA as the accompanist of a renowned Italian jazz singer – Simona De Rosa. He performed at festivals and venues such as: Jazz Jantar – Gdańsk, Jazz Nad Odrą – Wrocław, Pompeii in Jazz – Pompeii, Zigzag – Berlin, B-flat – Berlin, InfoSpot of the EU Parliament – Brussels, Beijing Concert Hall – Beijing, Blue Note Beijing, Blue Note Shanghai, Blue Note Poznań, Taihu Jazz Festival – Beijing, Giant Steppes Jazz Festival- Ulan Bator, Mongolia, Usadba Jazz Festival – Moscow, Binh Minh Jazz Club – Hanoi, Jassmine – Warsaw, Blues Alley – Washington D.C.
